New: You decide what Copilot remembers

How much information do you want AI to retain about you?
This is the question Microsoft is starting to address with a significant new update to Copilot.
Previously, Copilot was helpful for quick tasks like summarizing text, drafting emails, or answering questions, but it didn’t retain much personal information.
Each interaction felt like a new introduction, limiting its ability to feel truly "personal."
However, this is about to change.
Microsoft is introducing memory management to Copilot, providing you with more control over what it remembers.
You can instruct it to "remember this," and soon there will be a comprehensive memory management page where you can view what’s stored.
You’ll have the option to edit or delete details whenever you choose.
In essence, Copilot can gather useful context about you and your business, but you maintain control over what it retains and what it forgets.
Why is this important?
Consider the time saved if Copilot could remember your team’s report-writing style, key client names, or preferred proposal formats.
Instead of repeating the same information, you could focus on your tasks.
If there are changes, such as a client’s details or your preferred style, you can update or clear that memory instantly.
This update also includes another significant feature: Connectors.
Copilot already connects to OneDrive, and soon it will also link to Google Drive.
This means you can ask Copilot to retrieve documents, summarize a folder of files, or extract insights from stored data without manually opening each file.
Over time, more services are expected to be integrated, offering businesses a more cohesive way to manage their information.
These features are being rolled out on the web, Windows 11, and mobile devices, with some potentially free and others possibly part of Copilot’s paid tier in the future.
Copilot is evolving into a smarter, more personal assistant that learns from you, while ensuring you remain in control.
This balance could be crucial.
The more Copilot remembers, the more useful it becomes. Yet, the fact that you control what it retains allows you to harness its capabilities without losing control.
