How often have you searched for a file, only to forget its name?
You’re certain it’s there. You recall writing it, perhaps even the approximate time.
Yet, Windows search just returns a blank stare. Or worse, it presents ten random web results and a document from 2019 that’s irrelevant.
Sound familiar? It’s incredibly frustrating.
This is a common issue, especially for teams managing numerous files, folders, and projects.
Well, prepare to be impressed: Microsoft is finally addressing this issue.
A new Windows 11 update aims to make search more conversational. Instead of recalling exact file names, you can type phrases like “find the notes I made for the July project meeting” or “show me pictures of the team at the summer BBQ.” Your PC will understand your request.
This feature, known as natural language search, is a significant advancement. However, it’s available only on what Microsoft refers to as Copilot+ PCs.
Copilot+ PCs are Microsoft’s new AI-powered computers. They include a special chip called an NPU (Neural Processing Unit), designed to handle AI tasks locally on your computer without internet reliance. It’s not only faster but also more private. This chip enables features like smarter search and integrates with Microsoft’s Copilot assistant.
Copilot is integrated into Windows 11 and Microsoft 365, assisting with tasks from drafting emails to generating images. Now, it can even locate files based on vague descriptions.
The feature is still in testing but appears in preview builds of Windows 11 for Copilot+ devices, suggesting a full rollout is imminent. It also works with cloud files in OneDrive, offering an enhanced experience for businesses using it.
However, if you’re not using a Copilot+ PC, you won’t see this update yet. But if you’re considering upgrading your hardware this year, this feature might be worth watching. It’s the kind of improvement that saves time and reduces frustration, giving your team one less hassle.
